Durie Hill Elevator and the Durie Hill War Memorial Tower
From the Wanganui City Bridge, pedestrians can walk 205 metres (672 feet) into Durie Hill via a tunnel that leads to the Durie Hill Elevator. From here visitors can walk little further to the unique Memorial Tower built from fossilized shell rock. On top are wonderful views of the river and Mt Taranaki and Mt Ruapehu.
